900 eyes

For two years, from 2006 to 2008, Susan O'Doherty photographed and painted over 450 familiar faces from the Sydney art scene: visual artists, writers, curators, cartoonists, administrators and, at times, their partners or family. Her plan was to chart the interlinking networks of arts practitioners to acknowledge their contribution and celebrate their commitment. The result when assembled is a powerful fresco, rich with the character and colour these lives contribute to the city's cultural energy.

Following its exhibition at Manly and Tweed River Galleries, the entire 472 portraits was on show at the Maitland Regional Art Gallery Art Gallery from October 23 through to December 6 2009. You can view details of this show here.
